The artwork I've done was a scene of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the Dataran Merdeka located opposite of the building, in relation to the art movement of Cubism. The name of this artwork was derived from my desire to pause the time for a moment in order to keep the good memories. As I’m not belong to this flourishing city, I’ve always expected KL to be a very bustling city. However, this spot was peaceful and it gave me a sense of serenity when I made my first visit.
Being inspired by Chin Kong Yee’s Actuality Accorded Painting (AAP), I applied “fish-eye-lens” effect on my painting. My painting was made up of two panels and it involved change of perspectives whereby the two panels can be arranged in two different ways (60x42cm shown in Pic1 and 30x82cm shown in Pic2). On the background, I’ve applied Cubism technique to form the skies with different perspectives. There were some fragments of skies with colour of sunset to recall my memory of that place.
Moreover, the fish-eye and cubism composition tends to attract viewers attention since it appears to be more attractive than the usual perspectives we saw. Warm colour used in the buildings and cool colour used in the background as well as foreground also differentiate the subject matter from the background and make it appears to be the focal point of the whole painting.
