THE FLAVOUR OF SILENCE The main subject of this artwork is ondel-ondel, a traditional art that lives and develops in the Betawi community in Jakarta and its surroundings. Ondel-ondel is the personification of an ancestral figure, which initially functions as a repellent against reinforcements and protects the inhabitants of a village from danger, which has now changed its function into a traditional performing art. Artists see ondel-ondel as a scary and strange monster, but at the same time funny and entertaining. The purpose of designing this work is to experiment with graphics and motion into multi-media works. The design of this work begins by exploring the various forms of ondel-ondel into monster illustrations which are applied to a piece of cloth using digital printing techniques. The cloth serves as a costume (represents the body/outside), which is worn by the model (represents the soul/inside). The next stage, the artist explores the movement of people to the accompaniment of Betawi music. This exploration of motion produces visual variations of dynamic abstract figures. In life, body and soul move to complement each other. Body and soul are lonely figures, who in this work, both through motion and graphic display, are depicted looking for the color of life and the taste of the loneliness they experience. It is this message that is intended to be conveyed in this work, namely the various tastes in a space of silence
