Title: Dancing ‘Naga Lasso’
Design concept: “Wrap Circle Loop”
This design is inspired by Thai literature, Phra Suthon Khamchan which is composed of verses in “Kap Chanbang 16” as the main prosody by Phrayā ´Itsarānuphāp. This is a story about Phra Suthon, who is a human, and Manōrā, who is a Kinri, a half-woman, half-bird (Bird-Maiden). Phra Suthon is the prince of the fertile city of Uttarapañcāla where the seasonal cycle of rain is under the supervision of "Naga Thao Chomphu Cit”, a great serpent who has a beautiful glittering pink body. It is a serpent in the Chap Phaya Putta family or the rainbow-colored Naga family. Naga Thao Chomphu Cit was once rescued from Phran Bun, a huntsman. The Naga agrees to allow the Phran Bun to use his "Naga Lasso" to catch Manōrā to give to Phra Suthon. The lasso is a powerful weapon of the Naga. It has a circular shape like a snake eating its tail.
The design features one chapter of Kap Chabang 16, the body colour of the Naga Thao Chomphu Cit, and the Naga's lasso. These are combined with the Thai font structure in a circular grid emerging as a Perfect Loop pattern without a beginning and end. This pattern can be applied in many applications such as on gift wrapping paper, on clothes that move freely along the body, and on a scarf to add flutter to the neck, etc.
