Ghosts are scary. I believe most people will agree with that statement. In most of horror movies ghosts are described as dangerous creatures who have anger and grudge that can injure or even kill people in order to take revenge.

In Indonesia, people are very close to horror stories. From myth to fact and most of them are scary. I, myself, love horror stories a lot and have some experiences related to the supernatural. Yet, I don't have the ability to see aparitions. Although I can only "touch" spirits by accident, I believe they are actually all around us. Living their own life in their own world. I have respect for that.

From several reliable sources my respect for them is getting bigger. I no longer see them as eerie creatures. I feel pity for them, as a matter of fact. They are trapped by their unfinished business during their lifetime. Many died tragically and even sadistically. They can't really leave and many end up being "ridden" by supernatural creatures with negative energy and make them look scary and often haunting.

Ghost, seen from that perspective, is a new space. A new point of view that actually invites sympathy and respect. I made my artworks look so scary because they do look scary indeed. Yet, there are something horrible happened behind their eeriness.

Through my artworks, I'd like to say that ghosts deserve different treatment from humans. Don't fear them. Respect them.
