Description
Zheng He, a famous Chinese explorer, led expeditions between 1405 and 1433, commanding a fleet of 307 ships and 27,000 sailors. In 1413, his Ming fleet landed on the coast of Regol, Duchy of Lasem, where Admiral Zheng He’s captain, Bi Nang Un, was welcomed by Adipati Wijaya Badra and given land in Kamandhung, now known as Binangun. This batik cloth illustrates Zheng He, his fleet, and a watchtower, telling the historical tale of their arrival. The cloth has three sections: the top and bottom edges feature tanahan isen; the main body contains sekar jagad patterns with isen like palangan and truntum; and the left tumpal showcases buketan, a classic Lasem design. The cloth\'s unique perspective technique adds a new dimension to Lasem’s batik heritage.
