Description
In 1742, the Yellow War erupted between Javanese-Chinese forces and the VOC in Rembang. Panji Margono, known as Tan Pan Ciang, fought in this war and is called Encik Macan in Babad Tanah Jawi. Today, a statue honoring him stands at Gie Yong Bio temple in Lasem. Inspired by these historical tales, the creator worked with craftsmen to design a Lasem batik motif, blending historical narrative with artistic symbolism. The batik features red and black for warrior strength, contrasted with white dots symbolizing VOC forces. Its structured layout includes traditional tumpal motifs and intricate isen-isen patterns. Through this batik, the creator preserves cultural heritage, promoting a dialog between Indonesia\'s history and contemporary aesthetics. This artwork serves as a medium for historical reflection and intercultural exchange.
